Growth by acquisition is a strategy used by businesses of all sizes. This involves acquiring other companies and adding them to your portfolio. When done correctly, it can provide new customers, new products, new markets, and the potential for synergy.

WordPress is designed to be extensible and there are thousands of third party themes and plugins. Many of these were created by individuals to solve a particular problem or as a side gig. Consequently the WordPress ecosystem is seeing a number of companies using a growth by acquisition strategy, taking advantage of the large number of small and medium sized solutions to expand.

In this interview Gordan Orlic of WebFactory shares his experiences growing his business by purchasing WordPress plugins. The interview is part of the Freemius “Gamechangers” video series.
